Sir Columbus, that was cheating !!

In the famous story of Egg of Columbus, according to Wiki at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egg_of_Columbus Christopher Columbus said:

'My lords, I will lay a wager with any of you that you are unable to make this egg stand on its end like I will do without any kind of help or aid'. They all tried without success and when the egg returned to Columbus, he tapped it gently on the table breaking it slightly and, with this, the egg stood on its end.
Hey foul! Sir Columbus, that was cheating!!

It can be done without any tricks !! It just takes technique without any other help or aid !!

Here are the prove:

Since when I was in primary school till my university days, I have always believe the egg would stand on the midnight of the 7th day of the 7th month of the Chinese Calender, this is similar to the western myth of the ability ot making egg stand during Equinox. The thing is the myth is really powerful and for many years; my sisters and me did stay up till midnight (in village those days, everyone especially the kids sleep at about 9pm) on that day, tried it and found that it really works!! The eggs would stand till the next morning and the weird thing is when we tried to make them stand again after they toppled, we somehow could not do that again. (There is moral to this story, will leave it to next blog >.< )

People used to explain this as the gravity effect of stars, sun etc. but somehow it puzzled me since I know from physics the effect would be just plain too little.

Only until my university days, I accidentally found that this could be done on any other days and times!! The above are photos of the prove!! I took those photos when I demonstrated this to a friend a few weeks ago.

NO tricks and NO aid, just pure technique !!

Will tell you how it is done in another entry...leave it to you to try on your own first. :)

Damn.... too bad I was not there when Columbus make that bet !!

In case you didn't see this...

Alright... I almost never blog about politics, but today I felt compelled to make an exception!

So many things happened in Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur (KL) this afternoon and yet most main stream media was silent about it and gave the diluted "news" later the day as if nothing have happened.

Thanks to the information age, news blockage is the thing in the past.

In case y
ou missed it, here are news coverage (mostly foreign) on the BERSIH Rally to deliver Memorandum to the Agong (King) of Malaysia:

AlJareeza News:

Malaysia Information Minister Zainuddin Maidin's comments on AlJazeera:

, aiks...what he said is so embarrassing that Malaysia has such a minister!

Bernama Mandarin News (at Astro's AEC News Channel 301) :

Oops...in Mandarin, just see the picture if you can't understand.

BBC:

CNN:

NTV7:

If by now you still do not know what the heck all these about, go to:Malaysia-Today website.

Yellow Day!

My Chinese name is 黄耶斌, 黄 is my surname and literary means yellow.

You may notice, my blog is going Yellow today (Nov 10, 2007) BUT it has nothing to do with my surname.

If you are a Malaysian and you do not know why I am going Yellow today, then let me tell you that THE FACT THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW IS THE REASON WHY I AM GOING YELLOW TODAY. Go figure....

The Winds of Change is blowing everywhere, let's pray for Malaysia, let's hope for Malaysia.

p.s. I am not a heavy blog reader due to time constraints, but I notice a few site that I read turning into yellow today as well, check out:
- Marina Mahathir's Blog (MM is Former PM Tun Mahathir's daughter)
- My colleague John See's Blog
- may add more later.
